2017 Alfa Romeo Giulietta facelift unveiled: Australian launch due later this year

The facelifted Alfa Romeo Giuletta hatch has been revealed ahead of its unveiling at the 2016 Geneva motor show.


The updated Giulietta features a swag of blink and you'll miss 'em visual updates, including a new honeycomb grille, a remodelled front bumper, satin door handles, and oblique exhaust tips.

Trainspotters will also notice the new, more formal script used for the Giuletta badges on the tailgate, as well as the company's lightly revised logo.

New on the drivetrain menu is a dual-clutch transmission paired with the company's 1.6-liter turbo-diesel, which generates 89kW of power at 3750rpm and 320Nm torque at 1750rpm.

There are seven other engines available in the revised Giulietta. On the turbocharged petrol side there's a 89kW 1.4-litre, 112kW a 1.4-litre Multiair unit, a 127kW 1.4-litre Multiair, and a 179kW 2.0-litre engine.

The compression ignition lineup includes the aforementioned 89kW 1.6-litre JTDm engine, as well as 112kW and 131kW versions of the 2.0-litre JTDm unit. There's also a 120kW 1.4-litre dual-fuel engine that can consume either LPG or petrol.

On the inside, the Giulietta is available with a 5.0- or 6.5-inch Uconnect touchscreen. With the aid of the Uconnect Live Android or iPhone app, the updated infotainment system is able to connect to live services, such as TuneIn radio, TomTom Live navigation, and Twitter and Facebook.

Cars fitted with the larger 6.5-inch touchscreen interface are treated to built-in satellite navigation, as well as the new Alfa Performance system, which allows the driver to view an array on-screen gauges and driving tips, as well as synchronise their lap times and stats onto a smartphone.

The updated Giulietta will be available in Europe in three trim levels: regular, Super and Veloce.

Standard equipment on the top-spec Veloce model includes sports suspension, Brembo brakes with bright red callipers, 17-inch alloy wheels, enlarged side skirts, sportier bumpers with red trim, a carbon-look backing for the headlights, and a glossy anthracite finish for the wing mirrors.

There's also seats trimmed in leather and fake suede, aluminium pedals, red stitching, fake carbonfibre trim, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. The Giulietta Veloce is powered exclusively by the 179kW 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Australia has confirmed that the updated Giulietta will hit Australia in the third quarter of this year, with further details to be revealed closer to launch.
