2016 Subaru Liberty pricing and specifications

The 2016 Subaru Liberty launched this week gets minor revisions to its exterior and interior, while it now comes with a revised suspension setup and the company’s Vision Assist active safety technology as standard on the Premium variant.

Subaru Australia has added the Vision Assist driver assist system as standard to the Premium variant in the Liberty range, in addition to the already present Eyesight system.

The package includes blind spot monitoring, lane change assist, auto dimming rear view mirror, high beam assist and rear cross traffic alert. It complements the Eyesight system, now in its third generation, with adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, pre-collision braking assist, pre-collision steering assist, lane departure warning and lead vehicle start alert.

The third-generation system can now detect brake lights as well as provide actual steering assistance to help prevent a frontal collision.

The inclusion of the active safety system is just as important to the Subaru brand as its all-wheel drive credentials, according to Subaru Australia’s managing director (story here).

The major difference between the MY15 and MY16 is the revised suspension setup, which Subaru says now gives the Liberty more dynamically capable handling characteristics with reduced noise, vibration and harshness.

The changes were made after Subaru engineers visited Australia for extensive local testing.

Subaru revised and fine-tuned the shock absorbers, to lower the impact harshness on sharp bumps as well as allow for quicker settling and resolving.

The company claims it has maintained the Liberty’s cornering ability on smooth tarmac surfaces while its suspension revisions have also led to a reduction in floor vibrations, which have improved the car’s NVH.

Other changes to the 2016 Subaru Liberty range include the addition of a new Dark Blue Pearl exterior colour, while the entry-level Liberty 2.5i gains electric folding door mirrors.

The premium variant, Liberty 2.5i Premium, and the 3.6R now come with an updated version of the factory fitted satellite navigation that includes, Siri integration and the new Subaru Map Update Program, allowing for three years of free map updates (subject to the vehicle having its scheduled services performed through an authorised Subaru Service Centre).
