2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric photo and details leaked
Details and a front-on image of the Hyundai Ioniq Electric have been published online ahead of a possible unveiling at the Geneva motor show.
Overnight, Motor1 published a front-on photo of the all-electric hatchback (above), as well as some details reportedly obtained from Hyundai.
According to the website, the Ioniq Electric will be powered by an 88kW electric motor that's hooked up to a 28kWh battery. The battery pack is made by LG and is stored underneath the rear seats.
Under the South Korean testing cycle, the Ioniq Electric has a claimed range of 169 kilometres on a full charge. Performance wise, the electric hatchback can reportedly hit a top speed of 150km/h.
In its homeland, the Ioniq Electric will be priced from 40 million won ($46,200), with an upscale model retailing for around 43 million won ($49,700). Available equipment will include LED headlights, chromed door handles, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a six-speaker audio system.
The Ioniq Electric's drivetrain will be one of three offered in the aerodynamic hatchback. The Ioniq was fully unveiled and detailed last month with a Prius-fighting petrol-electric drivetrain, and Hyundai is currently hard at work on a plug-in hybrid variant.
Hyundai will begin sales of Ioniq Electric US from around August 2016. Bill Thomas, general manager for public relations at Hyundai Australia, says that the local arm is in the process of revising its local plans for the Ioniq and that the EV "isn't ruled out at this stage".
