2017 Skoda ‘Kodiak’ SUV rendered ahead of concept debut in Geneva

Talk of a dedicated SUV in the Skoda range has been circulating for some time, and while executives have been willing to discuss the model, few details have been shared.

This latest rendering, produced by independent pixel manipulator X-Tomi, reveals a convincing look at what showgoers might see when the VisionS concept appears in Geneva next month.

Spy photos in the past year have shown the new SUV testing beneath a Yeti-based skin, but, for now, onlookers have had only a set of teaser illustrations and this new rendering to count on for a preview of what’s to come.

The Czech car maker may have already revealed its hand, however, with the recent unveiling of Volkswagen Group stablemate Seat’s new Ateca SUV leading to speculation that Skoda’s new offering will wear similar styling.

But, while the Ateca has so far been revealed in a five-seat form only, Skoda’s new SUV - rumoured to be called ‘Kodiak’ - will debut with seating for seven.

As last week’s teaser images reveals, Skoda’s VisionS concept will feature a nearly identical profile to the Ateca, but a longer rear quarter window hints at a longer wheelbase to accommodate a third row of seats.

A five-seat version of the so-called Kodiak is also expected, and it is likely that this variant will feature the same upswept D-pillar design worn by the Ateca.

Skoda Australia has already confirmed a local launch the high-riding new model, but, with the Octavia Scout already acting as a mid-sized five-seat SUV, it is likely we will only see the seven-seat ‘Kodiak’ variant.
