2017 Lexus LC500h hybrid revealed ahead of Geneva debut

It wouldn’t be a Lexus if there weren’t a hybrid variant to go with it, and so now we have this: the Lexus LC500h hybrid sports coupe.

But, apart from its new blue finish - the same trick last played with the LF-LC concept that preceded the LC500 - there’s little to know about this new hybrid variant’s power package.

The LC500h hybrid’s styling is largely identical to the LC500 that debuted at January’s Detroit auto show, with the familiar blue-glowing Lexus badge standing out as the only obvious change.

In its regular petrol-only form, the LC500 is driven by the company’s 5.0-litre V8 engine producing around 350kW, with a 0-100km/h time claimed to be below 4.5 seconds.

This hybrid model? Your guess is as good as ours, but it appears likely that Lexus will turn its fuel-saving hybrid talents to a more LaFerrari-, 918- and P1-inspired goal: electric-boosted power.

In fact, what little Lexus has offered today provides this much of a hint: “driving enjoyment, performance and efficiency.”

Australia

A local launch for the LC500h also looks to be on the cards, with Lexus Australia confirming that it will soon reveal “local market introduction” details.

Watch for all details to be revealed at next month’s Geneva motor show.
