2016 Infiniti Q70 pricing and specifications

The 2016 Infiniti Q70 luxury sedan is now on sale in Australia, with the updated model bringing with it more equipment and a more stylish look.

The updated Infiniti Q70 sees a nip and tuck both at the front and at the rear. There is a new front bumper with revised lower shrouds depending on the model, new LED headlights, LED tail-lights and a revised rear bumper, too. All models get new side mirrors with integrated blinkers, too.

The new lighting forms part of the brand's swag of additional equipment that has been added to the Q70 range. The mid-size luxury model - which competes with big names such as the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class - saw price cuts in late 2014, and there have been no changes to the pricing of any of the updated versions either.

That means the base model GT remains at $68,900 plus on-road costs, the mid-range S Premium is priced at $78,900 plus on-road costs, and the flagship GT Premium hybrid model is an $82,900 proposition.

The GT and S Premium versions retain the same 3.7-litre V6 petrol engine with 235kW of power and 360Nm, with a seven-speed automatic fitted standard. The GT Premium model uses a 3.5-litre petrol engine teamed to an electric motor and a battery bank in the boot, and that model produces a total combined output of 268kW and 546Nm.

So, what else is new to the range from Infiniti?

Nissan's luxury arm claims to have improved the noise, vibration and harshness of the new model, with improved insulation for a quieter cabin. Further, the S Premium models have seen revised dampers and a new "stiffer" 20-inch wheel design to improve comfort. The GT base model gets redesigned 18-inch alloys as well.

There is more safety kit now standard on the mid-range S Premium and high-grade GT Premium hybrid versions. The additions include forward emergency braking, a system called Predictive Forward Collision Warning, which can apparently detect what a vehicle two cars ahead is doing, and Backup Collision Intervention, a system that autonomously brakes the car in reverse if an obstacle is detected.

The safety suite - known as Safety Shield - has been strengthened further in the mid- and high-grade models, with the lane departure warning system now adding lane departure prevention (to steer the car into its lane), and the blind-spot warning system adding blind-spot intervention (to stop the car swerving into oncoming traffic).

Those two models also get Infiniti's surround-view camera system and adaptive front lighting system (with cornering lights).

The entry-level GT largely goes unchanged apart from the cosmetic bits and bobs, but also gets a 10-speaker Bose stereo system.
