Mazda CX-5 sales halted in the US over fire risk
The Mazda CX-5 has been recalled in the US over a potential fire risk.
Approximately 287,000 examples of the Mazda CX-5 (model years 2014 through 2016) will be recalled over a possible fire risk if the car is involved in a rear-end collision. Sales of the CX-5 have been halted, too.
The popular SUV's fuel filler pipe may be susceptible to rupturing during a rear collision, which in turn may result in fuel leakage, and thus the inherent fire risk.
There have reportedly been no deaths or injuries as a result of the condition, but US CX-5 owners are likely to be able to take their car in to a dealer and get a loaner while the company comes up with a suitable fix.
Mazda Australia has confirmed that the problem is specific to models sold in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.
That means that locally-delivered cars, and vehicles across Europe and Asia, are unaffected by the recall.
