The conventional soft top arrangement steers away from earlier reports that the Spider would utilise a Targa Top arrangement. Also absent are the R8's trademark 'side blades'.
Other visual changes for the Spider model include additional air intakes located behind the seats as well as a pair of safety roll bars. The placement of the fuel filler cap was also changed due to the lack rear pillars. Changes under sheet metal are focused around chassis strengthening.
It has also been rumoured that the R8 Spider will be offered exclusively with a V10 engine, though we expect a V8 to follow shortly after launch.
Sales timing for the new R8 Spider is expected for early 2010.
