2016 Audi A3 hatchback facelift spy photos

Our spy photographers have spotted the facelifted Audi A3 hatchback undergoing cold weather testing in the north of Europe.

The updated A3 three-door hatch's sports a similar level of disguise to the A3 sedan that was also spotted in chilly European climes at the end of last year.

On both variants, the expensive disguise tape is limited to the front and rear ends, with the headlights, tail-lights, front and rear bumpers, and parts of the bonnet and tailgate covered up.

Given the lights we can see peering through the camouflage, we know that the facelifted A3 hatch, like the sedan, will feature new LED-heavy head- and tail-light graphics.

At the front, the revised A3 seems to be sporting a new headlight design that mimics the latest-generation A4's lightning bolt lower section. There's also more sharply creased edges for the single-frame grille and redesigned ducts.

Under the bonnet, rumours have suggested that the new A3 range will feature a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol unit punching out around 140kW of power and featuring automatic cylinder deactivation for improved fuel economy.

Inside, expect the usual round of trim and equipment upgrades, as well as, possibly, a version of the Virtual Cockpit setup that features in new-generation Audi models, including the A4, TT and Q7.
