Lexus teases sporty Detroit debut:: LC coupe coming? – UPDATE

UPDATE: Lexus has now added a short audio clip to its teaser package, embedded below. If there was any doubt before that this will be a new sports car...

Lexus has handed down a mysterious teaser for a new vehicle it will unveil at next week’s Detroit auto show, promising an “unprecedented Lexus world premiere”.

The Japanese luxury marque has revealed little else, leaving only a trail of LSD-aided burnt rubber after dropping its stealth teaser - a hint in itself, of course.

Failing the sudden appearance of a complete mystery, it’s likely that Lexus will use the Detroit show to unveil the big new flagship coupe spied testing frequently over the past year.

That new model is expected to enter as a rival to the likes of BMW’s 6 Series, and spy photos suggest its styling - if not its intent - may be informed by the popular LF-LC coupe revealed way back in 2011.

Such a model would debut as something of a spiritual successor to the Lexus SC, which was last offered as a convertible that left production in 2010.

Lexus has yet to offer any details on the spied coupe, although reports overseas have suggested that powertrains will range from a 351kW 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 - as seen in the RC coupe - through to a 373kW hybrid and a turbocharged V8 LC F model.
