Alpine sports car to be revealed in February

February is likely to see Renault’s reborn Alpine marque unveil its first new model in decades, if a new Twitter post is anything to go by.

Posted on New Year’s Eve, the tweet mysteriously suggested that something special will occur on February 16.

“We wanted to announce our come back but some would say we never left,” the sports brand posted.

The significance of the February 16 date has not been specified, although it is notably the anniversary of French racing driver Jean Behra's birth in 1921.

Alpine last made headlines with the unveiling of its Celebration concept (above and below) at last year’s Le Mans 24-hour race.

Renault has yet to confirm if the Celebration concept will inform the look of Alpine’s new production offering, although we can likely expect much of its market-ready styling to carry over.

The new model, expected to be called ‘A120’ in tribute to the A110 that inspired its creation, will be offered in at least two forms: one an entry-level sports offering and other a high-powered rival to the Alfa Romeo 4C.

An Australian debut is on the cards for 2017, although exact timing is still to be confirmed.
