2016 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider pricing and specifications
The 2016 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider is now on sale in Australia, joining the coupe model that made its local debut earlier this year.
Priced from $99,000 plus on-road costs, the pleasure of topless Italian motoring in the 4C Spider will demand a $10,000 premium over its hardtop sibling.
The spend will get buyers a roadster that stays true to the 4C coupe’s lightweight formula: at 1035kg, the 4C spider is just 10kg heavier than the coupe.
Alfa says the 4C Spider is every bit as capable as the coupe, however, with special upper body brackets and a high-strength steel crossbeam up front promising a high level of torsional rigidity.
Both versions are built in a carbon-fibre monocoque design, with MacPherson suspension up front and a double wishbone arrangement at the rear.
The nearly identical weight numbers also help the 4C Spider match its counterpart for acceleration, with both variants claiming a 0-100km/h time of 4.5 seconds.
Top speed is listed at 258km/h, and fuel consumption is listed at 6.9L/100km - up ever-so slightly from the coupe’s 6.8L/100km.
Getting the 4C Spider there is the same turbocharged and direct-injected 1.75-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 177kW at 6000rpm and 350Nm between 2200-4250rpm in the 4C coupe.
Likewise, both feature a six-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters and a rear-wheel drive design.
Alfa Romeo’s DNA selector is also featured, offering Dynamic, Natural, All Weather, and Race driving modes.
The 4C Spider matches the coupe’s wheel configuration, too, with staggered 17x7.0 front and 18x8.0 rear wheels in standard form, with the option of a 18x8.0 and 19x8.5 arrangement for an additional $2000.

Options include red, yellow or black brake calipers (away from the standard grey) for an extra $1000, along with $3000 red and $2000 brown versions of the normally black leather sports seats.
Standard colours are Alfa Red and white. Optioning black or Modena Yellow adds $1000 to the bill, while Basalt Grey adds $2000, and Madreperla White and Competizione Red add $3000 each.
There’s also a $4000 Carbon and Leather pack, which adds carbon-fibre mirror covers outside and central tunnel bezels in the cabin, along with a carbon-fibre instrument cluster cover and stitched leather dash cover.
Those with aspirations for the track may be drawn to the $10,000 Racing Pack, adding racing suspension, sports racing exhaust, and Pirelli racing tyres on the larger 18/19-inch wheel arrangement.
