Faraday Future reveals plans for North Las Vegas EV production plant
Budding Tesla rival Faraday Future has released details of its inaugural US$1 billion ($1.4 billion) manufacturing facility in the west of the US.
Faraday Future is planning a 279,000 square metre factory in North Las Vegas, Nevada – the same state as Tesla’s forthcoming battery-building Gigafactory.
The announcement comes just three weeks ahead of the unveiling of Faraday Future’s first concept vehicle at 2016 CES, which promises to provide insight into the fledgling electric vehicle manufacturer’s design and engineering vision (see teaser below).
Faraday Future claims the North Las Vegas location offers “expansive development space, an enthusiastic workforce, an encouraging tax environment, close proximity to [its] California headquarters”, and positions it within reach of the thriving tourism capital of Las Vegas, allowing it to offer plant tours and “other engaging experiences”.
The company says it will also be positioned on the south end of the ‘electric highway’, a stretch of US Route 95 linking Las Vegas and Reno with a large network of vehicle charging stations.
Faraday Future says the North Las Vegas plant will create 4500 new jobs, including professional and manufacturing roles.
The company has previously flagged 2017 as its target for unveiling its first production car, with full-scale manufacturing likely to kick off later this decade.
We’re expecting to get a much clearer picture of the brand’s intentions at CES next month.
