Volkswagen teases reborn Bulli electric bus for CES debut

Volkswagen has rolled out a preview for its coming electric vehicle concept, to be unveiled at next month’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

It was just three days ago that organisers for CES revealed that Volkswagen passenger vehicles chairman Dr Herbert Diess would focus his keynote speech on the future of electric mobility, to be delivered alongside the unveiling of a related concept vehicle.

The news led to speculation that Volkswagen would at last unveil a production-bound take on its 2011 Bulli microbus concept, which had at the time been rumoured for a production run.

Nearly five years later, the retro-inspired microbus remains nothing more than a concept, but it seems we could now see an updated version of the Bulli next month.

This new teaser image (top of article) offers a first look at what we can expect from that concept, with a more modern version of Volkswagen’s familiar styling language.

The concept’s final design and identity is still to be revealed, but a tall van-like design appears likely, again hinting at a successor to the Bulli concept.

And, as with the Bulli, this new concept will be driven by an all-electric powertrain - a form of motivation that Volkswagen now considers a key part of its future.

Watch for the new electric concept to make its debut in the coming weeks.
