Toyota S-FR Racing Concept uncovered

The sporty little Toyota S-FR coupe concept car just got racy, with the Japanese company unveiling the Toyota S-FR Racing Concept ahead of its debut at the 2016 Tokyo Auto Salon.

Toyota Gazoo Racing has reimagined the slinky, cutesy S-FR Coupe into a track-focused racer ahead of the modified car showcase that runs from 15-17 January in Tokyo.

The aggressive looking little coupe gets a set of flared front and rear fenders, a more aggressive front bumper with carbonfibre-reinforced canards, a carbonfibre-reinforced rear wing, oversized rear splitter and central exhaust outlet, and a set of lightweight racing wheels with semi-slick Bridgestone tyres.

According to a release from the Japanese company, the concept model "represents Toyota's vision of the S-FR as a performance vehicle born for the racing circuit".

As CarAdvice has previously reported, the S-FR is expected to make it to production to sit below the 86 coupe, and those two models will slot below a halo model, the Supra, which will be a product of a collaboration between Toyota and BMW.

What will power the production S-FR remains a mystery, though there's a chance it will receive a small-output turbocharged petrol engine with the choice of manual or automatic transmissions. As with the 86, the S-FR will be rear-drive.
