Nissan Navara sales booming, number three ute in November

The Nissan X-Trail and Nissan Navara enjoyed boom months in November, propelling the Japanese company to huge monthly sales growth.

Nissan managed 7229 sales in November, according to VFACTS, a figure that was 39.5 per cent higher than the total for November 2014.

This made Nissan the number five brand in Australia, the first time it has cracked that number of some time. It edged Ford and Mitsubishi in the process.

The star of the show was the NP300 Navara, which is really getting some momentum now. Its 2291 sales compared to 1058 in November last year, meaning numbers more than doubled.

And, for the first time in years, Navara was the third most popular ute here behind only the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger, beating out the Mitsubishi Triton and Holden Colorado.

Of the Navara’s total, 1857 were the 4x4, and of these, a significant number were the flagship ST-X, with demand at the very least matching supply. This means private buyers and weekend warriors are clearly favouring the Nissan.

Given the Navara range expanded last month to include new single cab and extra cab variants, you’d reasonably expect the Nissan to go from strength-to-strength. It should be said some of November’s volume would have been early registrations on these variants.

The other hero for Nissan was the X-Trail, which remains easily the company’s top-selling car this year with 16,737 units.

Its 2225 units (up a massive 92 per cent) in November saw it eclipse the Mazda CX-5 and hit the very top of the medium SUV segment — Australia’s second most popular segment of all.

Speaking to CarAdvice today, Nissan Australia communications chief Peter Fadeyev said the company’s 1.0 per cent finance rate deals on offer at the moment were helping, but were far from the only factor.

Among the rest of Nissan’s range, it was more of a mixed bag. The Pathfinder (726, up 20.8 per cent) and Qashqai (859, up 57.3 per cent) grew well.

However, the Altima (88, down 29.6 per cent); Juke (190, down 28.8 per cent); Micra (94, down 55 per cent) and Pulsar (543, down 40.5 per cent) struggled.

On a side note, Nissan’s subsidiary brand Infiniti had its best ever month in Australia in November, with 75 sales, more than double what it managed in the same month last year. Of these, 43 were the Q50 sedan.
