McLaren Sports Series expansion – 570S 2+2 spotted?

Speculation suggests that the car seen here could be a 2+2 derivation of the 570S, 540C or both. Such a variant would offer two small seats behind the driver and passenger like a Porsche 911. 

The difference in rooflines from the side profile is slim at best (as you can see below with the spy car and the 570S), but there is indeed a difference when this car and the 570S are viewed from the rear. 

This spy car has a different horizontal vent behind the rear window and between the wheels, exposing the (likely) mid-mounted twin-turbo V8 engine.

We know that McLaren bills the third member of the burgeoning Sports Series range as “another bodystyle”. We also know that McLaren intends for this version to target a new sort of buyer. It will sit aside the 570 convertible slated for 2017. 

Expect this iteration of McLaren’s Sport Series family to inherit the same mid-engined, rear-drive layout with a carbon-fibre structure and signature ‘shrinkwrapped’ design as the 540C and 570S.

Under the bonnet of the 570S is a 420kW/600Nm 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine matched to a seven-speed SSG semi-automatic gearbox. Meanwhile the 540C gets the same engine, albeit detuned to 397kW/540Nm.

As we know, McLaren Automotive has pledged that each year it will release at least one new model from its Woking plant.

So far it has delivered. the timeline being: MP4-12C (2011), MP4-12C Spider (2012), P1 (2013), 650S and 650S Spider (2014), and the 675 LT and 570S (2015).
