2016 Kia Cadenza previewed for Korea, North America

The first teaser sketches for the new 2016 Kia Cadenza have hit inboxes today, offering a first look at a more aggressively replacement for the current model.

Known in its South Korean homeland as the K7, the Cadenza is a large sedan that sits above the Optima - known there as the K5 - in Kia’s family-car range.

Although the Cadenza has never been offered in Australia, it is closely related to the Hyundai Azera, which has been offered here in previous generations as the Grandeur.

Kia says the new 2016 Cadenza “will set new benchmarks for cutting-edge design” - suggesting that, just maybe, today’s stylised sketches may not be quite as heavily exaggerated as they appear.

At the front end, the new Cadenza looks likely to boast a new evolution of Kia’s now familiar ‘tiger nose’ grille, with a narrower and deeper design set between a diving bonnet and large fog-light bezels.

A tall and largely unfussy design dominates through the doors and high-set belt-line, below a long sloping D-pillar and a short rear deck.

Kia has also declared a higher level of luxury and refinement, with a more premium look in the cabin than even the top-shelf Quoris/K900 offered in some overseas markets now.

The Cadenza will launch overseas in the new year, but, as with the previous generation, a left-hand drive production schedule will keep the large sedan from Australian showrooms.

Watch for the Cadenza to make its official debut in the weeks ahead.
