BMW X2 spy photos

Our spy photographers have captured photos of the BMW X2, the next addition to the company's expanding range of SUVs.

As with BMW's other even numbered X models, the X2 will be a sportier counterpart to the recently revealed front- and all-wheel drive X1.

To highlight its greater emphasis on driving dynamics, the X2 features a lower roof line and angled lines for the wheel arches. The X2 misses out on coupe-like roof line and steeply raked rear windscreen used on the larger X4 and X6.

Under the skin, the X2 will share a platform with the new X1 and 2 Series Active Tourer, as well as members of the latest-generation Mini family. This means that it will feature three- and four-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines.

The X2, like the X1, will likely be offered in both xDrive all-wheel drive and sDrive front-wheel drive variants.

Based on earlier reports, the new X2 will enter showrooms some time in 2017, where it will be sold alongside the related X1. Also present will be the rear- and all-wheel drive X3, X4, X5 and X6, as well as the upcoming X7.
