Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG coupe recalled for seatbelt fix

A number of new Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG models have been recalled in Australia this week to address a defective seatbelt issue.

Affecting 53 examples of the 2015 S63, specifically in the two-door coupe range, the recall centres on a potentially incorrect fitment of seatbelts in the front row.

Mercedes-Benz Australia says that the defect could affect the locking behaviour of the belt, resulting in “incorrect operation” of the pre-tensioning system.

This means that in the event of an accident or during heavy emergency braking, the seatbelt may not restrain the occupant “to the full capacity”, increasing the risk of injury.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed it will write to owners of affected vehicles.
