Ferrari to boost production to 9000 cars per year by 2019

According to Ferrari's filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company's output has been historically limited "by plant capacity".

During the the 2012 calendar year, the company produced 7405 cars. In 2013, Ferrari announced that it would deliberately cap annual production at about 7000 cars to "in order to maintain a reputation of exclusivity among purchasers of our cars".

As part of its initial public offering (IPO) filing, the supercar maker says that "our strategic business plan reflects a continuation of the low volume strategy, while gradually increasing shipments to approximately 9000 units per year by 2019".

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Ferrari plans to use the RACE ticker code once it is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Fiat Chrysler is currently in the process of spinning off and listing 10 percent of Ferrari's common stock to raise cash to help fund its mainstream product development needs. The floatation is expected to occur either at the end of 2015 or the beginning of 2016.

In September 2014, Ferrari's long serving chairman, Luca di Montezemolo, handed in his resignation. He reportedly fell out with Fiat Chrysler boss, Sergio Marchionne, who wanted to increase the supercar maker's annual production.
