2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate wagon spied testing – UPDATE

The new 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class may have only last week been unveiled to the world, but the German carmaker is wasting no time in getting its wagon sibling ready for market.

Spied this week in cold weather testing, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate wagon is expected to make its debut at either the Geneva motor show in March or the Paris motor show later in October.

Although camouflaged, the look of this new wagon is not likely to surprise: expect lines which, like the new E-Class sedan, will closely follow those of the smaller C-Class Estate.

The new E-Class wagon's interior has also been exposed through earlier spy photos, but, thanks to the Detroit unveiling of the sedan, there are no secrets left on that front.

Standout technology in the cabin includes that large two-screen display in the dash, made up of two 12.3-inch screens set behind a single piece of curved glass.

The new E-Class will also mark the first application of Mercedes-Benz's new remote parking function, which allows the driver to stand outside the car to direct and monitor the car’s manoeuvres into and out of parking spaces via a smartphone application.

At launch in the coming months, the new E-Class range will feature a full spread of petrol and diesel engines, from the 135kW E200 petrol and 143kW E220d diesel, to the 205kW E350e plug-in hybrid model.

Expect high performance AMG models to use a version of the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that's currently doing duty under the bonnets of the Mercedes-AMG GT and C63 models.
