2.1 million Audis, 1.2 million Skodas have Volkswagen emissions defeat device

Reuters has been informed that 2.1 million Audi vehicles are powered by EA189 diesel engines that have the emissions testing defeat device on-board.

A spokesperson told the news agency that affected models include the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, TT, Q3 and Q5.

Roughly 1.42 million of these cars were sold in Western Europe, 577,000 located in Germany, and around 13,000 in the USA.

Skoda has also informed Reuters that 1.2 million of its cars are equipped with EA189 diesel engines that incorporate the emissions test cheating algorithm.

The Czech brand has yet to provide a list of the affected vehicles, nor their distribution across countries.

Last week, Volkswagen, parent company to both Audi and Skoda, admitted that Volkswagen and its subsidiary brands had equipped 11 million EA189 diesel-engined cars with a defeat device that would allow it pass lab testing for emissions output.

This came after Volkswagen confessed to US authorities that it had sold around 480,000 diesel-engined Volkswagen Beetle, Jetta, Passat, Golf and Audi A3 models with the test evasion software.

Seat, the other mainstream car brand that's likely to be swept up in the "dieselgate" affair, has yet to declare whether any of its vehicles are affected.
