Top 5: Incredible Concepts

1. 2007 Volkswagen GTI W12 650 Concept

Basically all VW concepts are simply incredible (take a look for yourself here), but this one is by far the most impressive. The W12 concept is the offspring of a Golf GTi and a Bugatti Veyron. Powered by a twin-turbo W12 engine (that's two V6's stuck together) it produces power levels unheard of in a hot-hatch at a phenomenal 477kW. The engine is so large that it resides behind the front seats and is fed by two enormous air scoops on either side of the car.

2. 2005 Holden Efijy Concept

Recently voted best concept car, the Efijy is a prime example of classic stlye meets modern technology. Powered by a supercharged V8 producing 480kW, its eccentric styling have made it very popular both here and internationally. Entrepreneurs the world over have made offers for the award winning concept, but Holden are adamant that the only Efijy in existence will find its home in the Holden Museum.

3. 2005 Maybach Exelero Concept

The Exelero, a concept built by the ultra-exclusive car manufacturer Maybach, is the ultimate in power and luxury. Its twin-turbo V12 engine produces 515kW, but all that power is nothing compared to the presence this car demands due to its formidable styling. It's long sweeping curves and staunch posture radiate an air of power and brutality, it is the kind of car even Batman would envy. At a cost of "holy-shit", even the most flamboyant oil Sheik would shed a tear.

4. 2006 Saab Aero X Concept

Before they built cars, Saab built planes, and this has never been more obvious than in the Aero X concept. From the jet turbine inspired wheels to the cockpit cabin design, this car would look as home in the air as it does on the road. In this car, you are not the driver - you are the pilot. It's power figures are far from shabby at a very respectable 298kW, however the twin-turbo V6 engine is fueled entirely by ethanol bringing new meaning to the phrase "performance with responsibility". Computer simulations have calculated its sprint to 60mph at 4.9 seconds on to an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.

5. 2007 BMW Concept CS

Carving out its own category as a self proclaimed four-door luxury Gran Turismo, the CS is the latest embodiment of BMW's design prowess. Information has not yet been released on what the concept would be powered by, however if its exceptional styling is any indication then it is sure to be impressive.
