2016 Renault Scenic spy photos

The next-generation Renault Scenic has been spied during public road testing in Europe.

With so much camouflage and cladding on the car, it's hard to tell whether the Scenic will ape its bigger sibling, the Espace, in adding some SUV elements to its people mover body.

We can see, though, that like the bigger Espace, the new Scenic will feature an airy cabin with the base of the A-pillar pulled well forward and the windscreen slanted back.

If the latest-generation versions of the Espace, Talisman and Megane are any guide, the Scenic will feature C-shaped headlights, hockey stick-style tail-lights, and bold splashes of chrome.

Under the skin, the Scenic will employ components from the Common Module Family that's been jointly developed by the Renault-Nissan alliance.

As with previous generations, expect the Scenic to share a lot in common with the similarly sized Megane. The second- and third-generation Scenic was available in both short and long wheelbase formats.

The Scenic was withdrawn from the Australian market when stocks of the second generation model sold out in 2009. Given Australia's reluctance to embrace small people movers, it's not a given that Scenic will make the journey down under.

Earlier this year, Renault Australia's managing director, Justin Hocevar, told Car Advice, "I think at this point in time our focus is clearly on Captur, current Koleos and the next-generation Koleos".

The next-generation Megane is scheduled for a local launch in second half of 2016.
