Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge cancelled – report

It has been confirmed that the Nissan GT-R-powered Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge is no longer heading for production.

Francois Goupil de Bouille, an Infiniti vice president, has told Car that "after we evaluated sales numbers, we realised it was not realistic to produce [the Q50 Eau Rouge]".

De Bouille said that the Eau Rouge was "just too costly", and that in the interests of balancing "cost versus benefit ... we decided to reign in our costs".

The vice president insisted that the brand was still interested in high performance models. De Bouille stated that "all things are being considered", and reportedly hinted that Infiniti might consider some alternative approaches, such as high output diesels or stripped out lightweight specials.

First presented in 2014, the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge concept featured a drivetrain largely taken from the Nissan GT-R supercar. The version of the 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 under the Eau Rouge's bonnet was tuned to deliver 418kW of power and 600Nm of torque.

Thanks to an all-wheel drive system shared with the GT-R, Infiniti claimed that the Q50 Eau Rouge was capable of a 0-100km/h time of around four seconds and a top speed of 290km/h.

One of the key drivetrain differences between the GT-R and the Q50 Eau Rouge centred around the choice of transmission. While the GT-R employs a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, the Eau Rouge was equipped with a seven-speed automatic.
