Just as the VFII followed 2013’s VF launch, the Gen-F2 range arrives as an evolution of the current Gen-F range.
Upgrades for the new model year include refreshed looks, new engines and revised suspension, but none of it comes cheap: with new supercharged LSA-powered 400kW versions of the Maloo R8 and ClubSport R8 now forming a temporary entry point, the 2016 range kicks off from $76,990 plus on-road costs for the Maloo R8.
The price of entry into the current 2015 range starts at $59,990 plus on-road costs for the Maloo, while the current Maloo R8 is priced from $69,990.
The ‘regular’ 340kW ClubSport R8 and Maloo R8 will return to spearhead the range in early 2016, bringing the cost of entry down once more, although pricing and specifications for those models are still to be confirmed.
At the other end of the range, the flagship 430kW GTS is priced from $95,990 for 2016, up from $94,490 for the outgoing 2015 model. (See full price list at bottom of article.)
Styling changes across the range include re-styled bumpers at both ends, along with a new contoured design to the side skirts, new bonnet vents, two new colours and new 20-inch alloy wheels for GTS, Maloo and ClubSport models.
Performance fans will be drawn more to HSV’s under-the-skin changes, however, with new ClubSport R8 LSA, ClubSport R8 Tourer LSA, Maloo R8 LSA variants, along with the Senator Signature, now all upgraded to the significantly more powerful supercharged 6.2-litre V8 LSA engine.
Graduating from the naturally-aspirated LS3 6.2-litre V8 to the supercharged LSA 6.2-litre V8 sees outputs climb from the SV-derived 340kW and 570Nm upgrade issued last year, to a new 400kW and 671Nm.
The 340kW unit is far from retired, however. That venerable powerhouse will continue in the Caprice-based Grange, along with the regular ClubSport R8 and Maloo R8 models - the latter two launching in the first quarter of 2016.
LSA-powered models also benefit from suspension revisions, with stiffened spring and damper rates brought in for reduced body-roll and improved corner entry response.
Likewise, improvements to the rear suspension module promise greater stiffness and braking at the back end.

Production of the Gen-F2 range begins in early October, with vehicles due to hit showrooms later that month.
Stocks of the current Gen-F range are understood to have a roughly two-month supply, meaning that buyers eager to step into an HSV but can't quite tap the $76,990 entry point can likely still get a good deal on a 340kW Gen-F champion.
