2016 Ford Falcon spy photos : 310kW XR6 Turbo almost here

After exclusively revealing that Ford Australia registered trademarks for the XR6 Sprint, XR6 Turbo Sprint and XR8 Sprint nameplates earlier in the year, CarAdvice can now bring you exclusive spy photos of the final Ford FG X Falcon and Falcon XR6 Turbo.

Our sources have confirmed that the final Falcon XR6 Turbo will receive a generous power hike from its current 270kW of power to 310kW of power, increasing torque from 530 to an XR8 matching 565-plus Newton metres, making it the most powerful and fastest XR6 Turbo ever produced.

According to a government emissions website, the new Falcon XR6 Turbo's fuel consumption will increase from its current 11.7L/100km to 12.6L/100km in conjunction with the power increase.

The spy photos show the use of Brembo brakes at the front, along with cross-drilled and slotted rotors. The brakes are likely to be the same as the four-piston Brembo brakes currently fitted to the supercharged V8 Falcon XR8. The Falcon XR8 features four-piston Brembo brakes, with cross-drilled and slotted rotors.

While the same engine was used in the previous generation FPV F6, which used 245mm wide rear tyres, we expect Ford to increase tyre width on the more powerful Falcon XR6 Turbo to 275mm. The increased width will allow the Falcon XR6 Turbo to get off the line quicker and easier.

In addition to the extra power and bigger brakes, the Falcon XR6 Turbo is also expected to get 'R Spec' suspension from the outgoing FPV range. The 'R Spec' suspension package adds a larger rear sway bar, stiffer shock absorbers and adjusted spring rates. The 'R Spec' kit should give the Falcon XR6 Turbo added confidence during cornering.

Also spotted was an entry-level FG X Falcon. While it doesn't seem to be carrying any design changes, there appears to be work being undertaken on emissions, suggesting that the final Falcon could enter its home run with slightly lower fuel use on non-XR6 Turbo models.

With a more powerful VF Series II Commodore only months away, Ford is expected to take the wraps off the final Falcon iteration before the end of the year, carrying the brand into its final year of local production.
