Father’s Day 2015 :: Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 papercraft model

The CarAdvice team think all dads deserve a special gift this Father's Day, and there isn't a gift much more special than a Porsche 911 - a 1972 911 Carrera RS 2.7 to be exact.

Albeit a paper one, that, in true Father's Day style, you have to make yourself.

Don't expect a quick tap of Apple-P to have the iconic Rennsport classic roll of the Epson, ducktail spoiler and all - no no. This will take time and care (and glue) - a perfect way to spend some quality time with Dad (or as Dad) this Father's Day.

To prove it is possible, the team joined forces and made one, with only a minor amount of swearing and table flipping frustration. From Print to Porsche, it took about three hours.

Here are some tips...

Use heavier paper, especially on an InkJet printer. Something about 100-120 gsm ought to do it.

Take care with the cutting. A craft knife might be easier than scissors.

Paper glue, like a UHU stick, works well. And despite cries around the office to the contrary, sticky tape isn't cheating.

Take it slowly and wait for each section to dry.

Follow the instructions and their order.

Don't worry too much if it starts to look a bit wonky - it will all come together in the end.

The wheels are hard and if you can palm them off to someone else, do so (we did say these were tips...).

The boxed-sections of the chassis add a lot of much-needed rigidity at the end.

The rear fender flares are tricky.

Camber can be dialed in to suit.

Porsche made 1580 of these, you've made one. Be proud of your work, and be proud of your dad.

Happy Father's Day to all our CarAdvice Dads!
