Tesla Model X Founder Series won by Sydney mum

A Sydney mum has become the lucky recipient of a 2016 Tesla Model X Founder Series model after winning a referral program run by Tesla Motors in Australia that began in August.

The referral program, which was run around the world and divided into three world segments (Asia Pacific, North America and Europe), gave current Tesla owners the opportunity to invite people to receive a $1000 discount on their new purchase through a referral link.

The first person to reach ten successful referrals in each region was then eligible to win a Tesla Model X Founder Series model, which isn't available to the public and is expected to be worth more than $150,000.

A Sydney mum and Model S owner, was the winner from the Asia Pacific segment, scoring a Model X Founder Series and $1500 for each vehicle she sold through her referral link.

The winner's family and friends convinced her to cancel the order she had placed on another vehicle and instead purchase a Model S. In total, the winner was able to refer ten people to the brand, tipping the scales in her favour.

While the Model X hasn't been launched yet, it is expected to be priced more than the Model S when it arrives locally. Deliveries will initially commence in the US closer to the end of this year, with the rest of the world following closely after.

The Model X design was leaked recently by Signature Series buyers that put forward US$40,000 ($56,000) to be able to pre-order the Model X.
