Based on the regular 308 GTi hot hatch that was revealed in June, the 308 Racing Cup boasts a fattened-up body kit to accommodate its larger wheels, along with a number of aero tweaks and a significantly more powerful engine.
On the body front, there’s flared arches at both ends to cover the Racing Cup’s big 18-inch wheels, making the the track-focused 308 a full 106mm wider than the regular GTi model.
There’s also unique bumpers at both ends with additional aerodynamic elements, along with a huge wing sprouting out of the tailgate for extra downforce.
As for power, the front-wheel drive 308 Racing Cup draws motivation from an upgraded version of the 1.6 litre engine that features in the GTi with output boosted to 226kW - thanks, in part, to the use of the same turbocharging design featured in the 208 T16 Pikes Peak car.
In regular 308 GTi form, the engine features in two states of tune: 182kW in the GTi 250, and an even 200kW in the GTi 270.
A unique suspension design is featured - albeit with pivots and rear beam borrowed from the GTi - with additional adjustability to suit circuit design and driver style.
Other racing features include a six-speed sequential shifter and big six-piston brake callipers with more than enough grabbing power for the 1000-1050kg hatch.
The 308 Racing Cup will be made available to teams competing in single-make championships, along with various other national series in Europe, with pricing expected to start at around AU$85,000.
As for everyday driving enthusiasts, Peugeot’s new 308 GTi will hit Australia early next year, in both 250 and 270 forms.
