Lamborghini to launch Veneno successor at Geneva 2016 – report

According to Yahoo Autos, the car was shown to prospective buyers, in hologram form, no less, at a private event during the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance that ran over the weekend.

It's understood that the price for this limited edition Lamborghini will start at around the US$1.2 million ($1.6 million) mark, with production limited to just 20 vehicles.

Although Lamborghini refused to comment directly on these reports, Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini's CEO, endorsed the company's strategy of producing limited run, uniquely bodied sports cars for its clientele.

"We want to showcase innovations," he told the website. "We don’t want to do concept cars for the museum. We want to give customers the potential to enjoy the cars on the road."

Despite the alleged disparity in prices, the new car will, in effect, be a successor of sorts to the Veneno that was launched in 2013. The Veneno was priced at 3.0 million euros (around $3.8 million at the time) for the coupe and 3.3 million euros ($4.7 million in 2013 money) for the roadster.

To partially justify the steep price tag, Lamborghini restricted production to just three Veneno coupes and nine roadsters. The Veneno featured a drivetrain consisting of a 552kW 6.5-litre V12, a seven-speed sequential transmission and all-wheel drive.

The coupe was capable of reeling off the 0-100km/h standard in 2.8 seconds, while the roadster was 0.1 second slower. Top speed for both versions was 355km/h.

Natural competitors to the new limited edition Lamborghini are thought to include the McLaren P1, Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918.
