2016 Lexus GS200t unveiled, replaces GS250

The 2016 Lexus GS200t has been unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance, with the new turbocharged 2.0-litre base model set to arrive in Australia from December 2015.

As is the case with the IS200t mid-size sedan, NX200t medium SUV and the larger, all-new RX200t, the GS200t will form the basis for the model line, replacing the GS250 with its 2.5-litre petrol V6 engine.

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine for the new 200t variant pumps out 180kW and 350Nm, with power sent to the rear wheels by way of an eight-speed automatic transmission. Fuel use should drop from the GS250's claimed usage of 9.3 litres per 100 kilometres.

The styling gets a few changes, too, with a new front-end design included a more sculpted front bumper with the eye-catching "spindle" grille. The GS also sees the adoption of bi-LED headlights, new-look tail-lights and a revamped rear bumper.

Further, there is a range of new exterior and interior colours, wheel designs and interior wood and aluminium trim selections.

There's plenty of new equipment, including a new media system (up to 12.3-inches in size) with revised touchpad interface, and updated standard safety gear including the Lexus Safety System +, which consists of a pre-collision braking system, lane-keeping assist, automated high beam, and radar cruise control.

The new GS range will comprise of the entry-level GS200t, GS300h, GS350 and GS450h, while there's also the high-performance GS F on the cards. It's more likely to be in 2016.

The GS range will arrive alongside the updated Lexus LX570, which was also unveiled at Pebble Beach.
