Bugatti Chiron teased after alleged sighting in Los Angeles

Overnight Bugatti released its first teaser for its new hypercar, which its widely tipped will be named Chiron.

The timing of the teaser video, right after a mysterious Bugatti prototype (below) was spotted at Los Angeles International Airport, has fuelled speculation that the car will be revealed at a private event during the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, which takes place this weekend in California.

In May this year, the rear of the a cloaked Bugatti prototype was spotted on a highway in Europe.

While the official teaser video doesn't reveal too much, the selectively capitalised 'E' in the suggested hashtag "#imaginEBugatti" might be further confirmation that the new car will be offered with some form of electrified drivetrain.

Earlier this year, Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen Group CEO, said that "there will be, for the first time, next to the petrol model, a hybrid version with improved performance".

Alternatively, the hashtag could just be a play on the EB badge that adorns all Bugatti cars, and a nod to the company's founder, Ettore Bugatti.

Reports suggest that the Veyron successor will use an updated version of that car's 8.0-litre W16. New turbochargers, as well as direct injection, will see output from the 16-cylinder engine upped to around 1103kW (1500hp).

The new car will reportedly be capable of a top speed of approximately 460km/h and a 0-100km/h time of 2.3 seconds.

If true, the new car will eclipse the Veyron's numbers. The Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition was capable of a 0-100km/h run in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 431km/h thanks to its 883kW/1500Nm motor.
