Fiat Freemont recalled – UPDATE

There has been a recall for the 2013-2015 Fiat Freemont announced over a potential fire risk.

According to the official recall notice posted to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's website recalls.gov.au, the issue relates to 2013-2015 Fiat Freemont 2.4-litre petrol models only.

The defect, according to the notice, is that "the engine beauty cover on some vehicles may detach from the engine and come in contact with the catalytic converter".

The hazard is that "if the engine beauty cover remains in contact with the catalytic converter, under hood smoke and/or a fire may occur".

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Australia has confirmed that 1672 vehicles are involved in this recall action.

"FCA Australia is in the process of contacting each owner to ask them to arrange an inspection at their local dealer, where a technician will carry out any work required at no cost to the customer," a statement from the company read.
