GM plant closure sees end of Sky, Solstice production

With production having officially stopped at GM's Wilmington, Delaware assembly plant the Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice models' production (along with their Daewoo and Opel derivatives) have also come to an end.

The last vehicle to roll off the line, a silver Solstice, marks the end of production for the short-lived, Bob Lutz-inspired rear-wheel-drive Kappa platform.

Though not quite the financial success GM had hoped for, demand was generally strong for the models and even for the unexpectedly ultra-limited Solstice Coupe (as pictured above) just arriving in dealerships now.

The plant had been in operation almost continuously for 62 years.
