2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe teased ahead of Frankfurt debut

Mercedes-AMG has handed down the first official teaser images of its muscular new 2016 C 63 Coupe, set to debut at September’s Frankfurt motor show.

The new coupe’s launch will follow the late 2014 unveiling of its sedan and Estate wagon siblings. (Catch our February review of the new C 63 AMG S sedan here.)

These shots, along with CarAdvice’s earlier spy photos, confirm that the new AMG C 63 Coupe will appear largely identical to its sedan and wagon companions in front-end styling, while taking its cues from the big new S 63 Coupe through the profile and along the rear half.

Power in the new AMG C 63 Coupe is expected to come from the same new 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 powerplant that drives the sedan and wagon models, which means 350kW and 650Nm in the ‘regular’ version and 375kW/700Nm in the enhanced C 63 S.

The new hero coupe will debut as a rival to BMW’s first-ever M4, which is driven by a 317kW turbo six. Audi’s 331kW V8-powered RS 5 Coupe will also stand out as a key rival, as will the new 351kW V8 Lexus RC F.
