Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe spy photos

Our spy photographers have captured the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe on the streets outside the company's development headquarters.

Compared to the concept car, which debuted at the Shanghai auto show in April of this year, the prototype seen here features larger headlights, a two-bar grille, smaller alloy wheels, higher profile tyres, and smaller lower air intakes.

The production car has also ditched the concept's fancy wing mirrors, flush pop-out door handles and frameless side windows.

Only the rear of the GLC Coupe prototype has been covered up by significant amounts of camouflage. Despite that, we can see that the prototype features a similar profile to the concept, with a steeply angled roof and rear windscreen flowing into a prominent deck lid.

Out the back, the production version of the GLC Coupe features rectangular tail-lights that extend into the tailgate.

Under the skin, the GLC Coupe is based directly on the recently revealed GLC crossover and, as such, will use petrol and diesel drivetrains taken directly from its more practical sibling.

Just as the GLC is pitched directly at the BMW X3, the GLC Coupe will square up against the Bavarian brand's X4 "coupe" SUV.

Although the GLC Coupe has yet to be confirmed for Australia, Jerry Stamoulis, told Car Advice recently that "if everything moves in the right direction there’s a very good chance that over the next couple of years we might see it in Australia, but timing and specific details are still in the planning stages".

The more upright GLC crossover goes on sale down under from December 2015.
