2016 Mini Clubman teased ahead of Frankfurt debut

The next-generation Mini Clubman has been teased ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt motor show, which starts in September.

Overnight, the image below was posted to the Mini website under the tagline "Go with you gut". Pictured completely in shadow, the production vehicle shares the same shape as the Clubman concept car that was unveiled at last year's Geneva motor show.

With the brightness boosted and contrast dropped (top), we can make out more detail about the upcoming production wagon. Like the concept and unlike the present version, the next-generation Clubman will have conventional rear passenger doors.

A longer rear overhang should ensure that the new Clubman will be able to carry more luggage and gear than the recently launched, first-ever five-door Mini hatch. The Clubman also looks like it has longer rear doors, hinting at a longer wheelbase. This stretched version of the UKL1 platform will likely be shared with the next-generation Countryman crossover.

In keeping with earlier models, the new Clubman will feature barn-style doors for access to the boot. For the first time, the Clubman will have horizontal tail-lights built into its barn doors.

The Clubman should be powered by the same selection of turbocharged three- and four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines as the latest generation hatches.
