BMW M3 Touring in the works for 2015 Frankfurt motor show
BMW is reportedly developing a wagon/estate variant of the M3 sedan to be revealed at this year's Frankfurt Motorshow in September.
According to Slovenian publication, Avto Magazin, the M3 Touring is on track to be unveiled in near production-ready form - similar to the way the F10 M5 Concept and F82 M4 Concept models were.
The move makes sense, giving BMW a direct challenger to the Mercedes-Benz C63 Estate and Audi RS4 Avant.
If the M3 touring is to follow the sedan, we would expect to see the same 317kW/550Nm three-litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine under the bonnet, along with recent updates that were applied to the standard 3-Series range - including full LED tail lamps.
This would mark the first ever 'official' M3 wagon. A prototype E46 M3 Touring was built but never moved on to production.
CarAdvice has claimed 2015 as the 'Year of the Wagon', with a spread of new models and resurgence in sales of load-carrying variants seen in Australia this year.
