2015 Audi A6 Allroad pricing and specifications

The updated 2015 Audi A6 Allroad is now on sale in Australia, with the German luxury brand dropping the price of its rugged wagon by $6000 to bring it closer in line to the sedan range.

The new Audi A6 Allroad is priced from $111,900 plus on-road costs, and brings with it a new engine, revised styling, new equipment and that prized higher driving position for which it has become known.

The A6 Avant wagon-based model – which offers “off-road capabilities for customers that do not want an SUV” – has historically been the most popular Audi A6 Avant variant, accounting for 75 per cent of sales. And for 2015, the Allroad takes the spot as the only A6 Avant model available to buy.

It mirrors the styling changes seen on the standard A6 range – at the front, there’s the adoption of a new, broader “single-frame” grille, a revised front bumper with new-look air intakes, and new LED headlights as standard. At the rear, a new chrome tailgate strip adorns the lower bumper, and there are reshaped tailpipes, new LED tail-lights and Audi’s dynamic indicators.

The interior changes also mirror those in the updated A6, with a “more ergonomic gear knob” as well as a new driver information system with high-resolution display, and aluminium and chrome highlights through the cabin (a no-cost option, the standard is walnut). Boot capacity remains 565 litres, expanding to 1680L with the rear seats folded down.

Powering the new model is a fresh 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6 engine producing 160kW of power and 500Nm of torque. Audi claims the engine can help the A6 Allroad shoot from 0-100km/h in 7.3 seconds, while the car’s claimed fuel consumption is 5.6 litres per 100 kilometres.

Aiding the lower fuel consumption (it’s down 0.7L/100km on the existing version, which had 180kW and 580Nm) is a new stop-start system that works between 0-7km/h, and the standard seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission’s new coasting mode that effectively disengages the drivetrain when you’re not accelerating.

The A6 Allroad features Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system, which in default mode splits the drive torque between the front and rear axles 40:60. On slippery surfaces, the system can apportion up to 70 per cent of torque to the front, or up to 85 per cent of torque to the rear.

The Allroad has some further specific equipment for those who wish to venture off the beaten track. They include a hill descent control system (active below 30km/h, capable of between 10-50 per cent gradients), a tilt angle display on the MMI media screen, and distinct drive modes: dynamic, automatic, comfort, allroad and lift.

Those drive modes alter the engine/transmission response, as well as the steering and suspension. The latter is an adaptive system that automatically adjusts the ride height depending on the situation and can also adjust to preset levels using the drive mode selector: dynamic – 125mm ground clearance; comfort/auto – 145mm; allroad – 175mm; lift – 185mm.

Audi expects the Technik Package ($4800) to be chosen by plenty of buyers. It consists of the brand’s park assist system (a semi-automated parking system can control the steering), adaptive cruise control with stop and go function and pre-collision braking system, a top-down 360-degree camera system, and Audi Connect online (4G) capability.

Other options include a Bose surround sound stereo ($1950), Matrix LED headlights ($2300), panoramic sunroof ($2980), painted wheel arches and bumpers to match the car’s body colour ($1450) and a load securing kit for the boot ($380).
