Nissan Pulsar airbag recall expanded to beyond 13,000 cars

A further 484 Nissan Pulsar hatches and 14 Pulsar sedans have been added to an October, 2013 recall of 12,800 models – or every new-generation car imported to Australia to that date.

Affecting C12 hatch and B17 sedan variants of the small car produced between April 1, 2013 and June 30, 2013, the "additional field actions" again relates to the models' side curtain airbag satellite sensor.

According to the official recall notice on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) product safety recalls website, the B-pillar-mounted curtain airbag’s satellite sensor may not have been installed correctly and in “extremely rare cases” may deploy “incorrectly”.

“If the defect occurs, the airbag may not adequately protect occupants in the event of a collision,” the notice says.

Nissan Australia told CarAdvice in a statement, "The reason for these [latest] recall actions is to inspect and, if necessary, correct the satellite sensor installation."

"Nissan is in the process of contacting customers affected by this recall," the statement says.

The original 2013 curtain airbag recall also included 1600 Nissan Almera models and was joined by a second recall affecting 1500 Pulsar hatches and relating to a brake light switch fault.

The all-new seventh-generation Nissan Pulsar launched in Australia in sedan and hatch body styles in February and June of 2013 respectively.

To date, Nissan has sold 2126 Pulsars in 2015.
