Lotus Elise:: 20th Anniversary special edition celebrates long-standing sports car icon

The Lotus Elise 20th Anniversary special edition has been revealed, celebrating two decades since the British sports car made its debut at the 1995 Frankfurt motor show.

Based on the Lotus Elise S Club Racer, the 20th Anniversary special edition is powered by a 1.8-litre supercharged four-cylinder engine developing 162kW and 250Nm.

Weighing 914kg, the special edition claims a 4.6-second 0-100km/h time and a 237km/h top speed.

Specifications include lightweight matte black forged wheels, lightweight sports seats (upholstered in either leather or Alcantara), a lightweight centre console and matt black wing mirrors, roll hoop cover, rear diffuser and tail-light panel. A sport mode is also part of the package.

The Lotus Elise 20th Anniversary is available in four classic Elise colours – Yellow, Blue, Green and Silver – with model-specific decals on the dashboard, seats and exterior completing the special edition look.

Ateco Automotive – the local distributor for Lotus cars – told CarAdvice that the new model is primarily a special edition limited to the UK and selected European markets. However, the 20th Anniversary Elise is “essentially” identical to the $84,990 Elise S Club Racer currently sold here and as such “there are no immediate plans for the Australian market” for the anniversary model.

Lotus says the Elise – which first launched with the kerb weight of 725kg – is its most successful model in terms of numbers produced, with almost 32,000 built and sold globally.
