The next-generation Volkswagen Transporter van has been teased in a new sketch ahead of its official unveiling in April.
Known by a multitude of names — including Multivan, Caravelle and Transporter — depending on the layout and specification, the next-generation van will carry the internal designation T6.
As with the current T5 model, the van will be available in a variety of cargo carrying forms, as well as a multi-row passenger carrying wagon.
The sketch (above) shows that the production version of the Transporter, and its derivatives, won’t stray far from the look established by last year’s Tristar off-roading ute concept.
Under the fresh set of duds, the new T6 Transporter is expected to use an updated version of the platform underpinning the current-generation van.
While the Transporter may do without the Tristar’s off-road-style wheel arches and fancy headlights, it’s expected to feature an interior design that’s taken straight from the concept ute (above), although the brown and orange highlights are unlikely to accompany the rest of the dashboard into production.
High-spec models are likely to be offered with Volkswagen’s touchscreen entertainment and navigation head units.
The next-generation Transporter will be unveiled at an event in Amsterdam on April 16, Australian time. The new Transporter heads into European showrooms later this year.
