The 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake will cost just $1500 more than its 'four-door coupe' sibling when it arrives in Australian showrooms in July.

Available to order from today, the CLA Shooting Brake - the fifth and final member of the German brand's new compact vehicle range after the CLA-Class, A-Class, B-Class and GLA-Class - starts at $52,400 plus on-road costs and boasts an equipment list that is largely the same as the successful CLA sedan.

Unique to the wagon body style are the Easy-Pack power tailgate and Designer aluminium boot rails, both of which are standard across the range.

The Shooting Brake gets 40mm extra headroom in the second row compared with the coupe and a cargo bracket fitting, which means you can lock the 60:40 split rear seats in a more upright position to increase luggage flexibility.

The wagon weighs only 30kg more than the sedan, with all of the extra weight at the rear. It subtly shifts the front-to-rear weight balance from 60:40 to 58:42.

The two range-topping Shooting Brake variants also get mildly retuned suspension compared with the CLA. The two mechanical platforms are otherwise identical.
