2015 Mini John Cooper Works pricing and specifications

Pricing and specification details for the 2015 Mini John Cooper Works hatchback have been announced, with the range-topping go-fast model to start below $50K.

Mini JCW pricing kicks off at $47,400 plus on-road costs for the six-speed manual, or $49,950 for the six-speed automatic version. That makes it $3000 cheaper than the model it replaces, proving CarAdvice's early report that the new model would be more affordable was bang-on.

That also means the JCW is more affordable than its most likeminded equivalent, the manual-only $49,900 Audi S1.

The Mini JCW is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine - the "most powerful ever allied to a Mini" - which has 170kW of power (up 10 per cent on the previous model) and 320Nm of torque (up 23 per cent). The result is a 0-100km/h time of 6.3 seconds for the manual or 6.1sec for the auto.

As well as being more powerful, the new top-spec hot hatch is more efficient - the auto uses a claimed 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres, while the manual uses 6.7L/100km.

Equipment highlights include Brembo brakes, dynamic damper control adjustable suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, head-up display, John Cooper Works sports seats, Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, satellite navigation, DAB+ digital radio, a reverse-view camera and a semi-automated parking system with front and rear parking sensors.
