2015 Ford Mustang pricing and specifications: Fastback from $44,990, Convertible from $53,990
Pricing for the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang Fastback and Convertible has been announced ahead of the car going on sale later in 2015.
As predicted by CarAdvice in September 2014, the new Ford Mustang kicks off well below $50K, with two engine options available to choose.
The entry-level model will be offered with a turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, and will be priced from $44,990 plus on-road costs for the six-speed manual Fastback, $47,490 for the six-speed auto Fastback, and $53,990 for the auto Convertible. Autos have paddleshifters, too.
The 2.3-litre versions have 233kW of power and 432Nm of torque, and there's a long list of standard equipment including dual-zone climate control, 8.0-inch SYNC2 media touchscreen with satellite navigation, smart key with push-button start, auto lights and wipers, leather trim, heated and cooled front seats, electric driver's seat adjustment, and 19-inch alloys (9.0 inches wide). The flagship 5.0-litre V8-powered variants are priced from $54,990 for the manual Fastback, $57,490 for the auto hard-top, and $63,990 for the auto Convertible version.
That engine produces 303kW/525Nm, and GT versions gain 19-inch alloys (9.0 inches in width at the front, 9.5 inches at the rear) painted in "Ebony Black". It also gets bigger brakes with Brembo calipers.
Graeme Whickman, vice president of marketing, sales and service for Ford Australia said the car's price will make it an attainable sports car for plenty of buyers.
“With such sharp pricing, we’re signalling that there’s a new Ford performance car coming and we intend to grab our rightful share of enthusiasts who value style, technology, performance and the history that the Mustang name brings,” Whickman said.
“It’s a technologically-advanced car without forgetting the heritage that has inspired Ford customers for generations."
Ford has confirmed it is already holding 1200 orders for the new Mustang, and the company says more than 15,000 "fans and intending buyers" have also asked for information about the car via the company's website.
Buyers will also have some options to choose, including "Over The Top racing stripes" ($650), black painted roof (hardtop only, not available with stripes - $975), 19-inch "lustre nickel" finish wheels (only on V8 models - $500) and prestige paint ($500).
