It looks a lot like a five-door version of the Kia Pro_cee’d GT, but the new 2015 Kia Cee’d GT Line is something of a sheep in wolf’s clothing.

The new model debuts the brand’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine produces 90kW and 172Nm and is available with a six-speed manual gearbox.

GT Line models powered by the brand’s 1.6-litre turbo diesel – now with 99kW/285Nm, up from 95kW/265Nm – are now offered with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Cee’d GT Line can be ordered as a three-door hatch, five-door hatch or five-door Sportswagon (bottom image), and carries over most of the styling elements of the sportier model, including the ‘ice cube’ LED daytime running lights, sporty bumpers, dual exhaust outlets (for hatchback models), body kit and larger 17-inch alloys (the Pro_cee’d GT gets 18s).


Indeed, it is almost certain that the GT Line is the model our spy photographers caught during testing in recent weeks in Europe.

While no interior images have been released yet, the GT Line is said to have been “uprated with a higher quality, sportier ambience” with grey, white and black upholstery with grey stitching, piano black highlights, aluminium sports pedals and further tweaks to the dashboard and door trims.

Kia Australia isn’t interested in offering the GT Line model locally, in order to protect its Cerato small car range.

However, the brand does sell the aforementioned Pro_cee’d GT locally, and while there’s been no news of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) being fitted to that car, a release from the brand states the transmission can handle “torque outputs up to 300Nm” – easily accommodating for the Pro_cee’d GT’s 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine’s 150kW/265Nm.

Kia claims the new gearbox helps cut fuel consumption and reduce emissions compared with the six-speed auto it replaces.

The company has confirmed that “after the Cee’d GT Line, the new seven-speed DCT will be available on a number of Kia models in future, with similar gains expected in fuel efficiency and performance depending on its application in different models”.
