2015 Peugeot 208 revealed with minor styling tweaks – UPDATE

The new-look, 2015 Peugeot 208 has been revealed ahead of the brand's most popular model making its debut at the 2015 Geneva motor show in March.

The Peugeot 208 has received its mid-life facelift, with the French maker the car has been "finessed in many key areas", including "more assertive new styling, fresh exterior colour choices".

The exterior changes include a new front bumper with a broader grille, as well as new-look two-tone headlights that feature "black and chrome masks" as well as an LED daytime running light "signature" as standard.

The rear-end sees updated LED light clusters, while a range of new 16- and 17-inch wheels will also be offered. There will be a choice of finishes for the wheels, too: painted, diamante, or "innovative sequential diamante" or "laser engraved" finishes. The new model also sees a range of personalisation options, and there are 13 colour options to choose from (including the new hue Orange Power, seen above).

Inside, the innovative 'i-Cockpit' cabin has seen a range of changes, including a leather-trimmed steering wheel for more models (from Active upwards, though the entry-level Access has never been sold in Australia), as well as a new dashtop trim on higher-spec models.

Equipment enhancements include the availability of an autonomous braking system for city driving (which operates below 32km/h), and a reverse-view camera which displays on the all-encompassing 7.0-inch media screen which now features smartphone mirroring capability.

An updated engine range ensures all models now meet Euro 6 emissions regulations, and every 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder BlueHDi diesel engine now emits less than 95g/km of CO2 (less than 4.0 litres per 100 kilometres). There are three power levels on offer (55kW, 75kW and 90kW) and all are offered with six-speed manual transmissions

Petrol options include the normally-aspirated 1.0-litre (50kW) and 1.2-litre (61kW) three-cylinder engines, while a new 1.2-litre turbocharged three-pot with 82kW and stop-start is now also offered. That's the engine that is expected to power the range of 208 models sold in Australia.

A new EAT6 six-speed automatic transmission will also be offered on the new 1.2-litre turbo (as well as a five-speed manual). It's also the engine that'll be used in the GT Line model, pictured above.

The GT Line model adopts a different grille with red highlights, black fog-light and side mirror surrounds, 17-inch alloys (finished in Caesium diamante with red highlights), and chrome window surrounds and exhaust tip. GT Line badges complete the exterior changes.

The GT Line's interior is finished in black and red, with its sports seats featuring red stitching as well as a similar finish on the doors and gear-shifter.

The updated Peugeot 208 GTi is now known as the the "GTi by Peugeot Sport". Stay tuned for more on the changes to that car.

Peugeot Australia has informed CarAdvice that the new-look Peugeot 208 is expected to go on sale locally in the third or fourth quarter of 2015.

The new model range is set to expand to include the sportier GT and entry-level Access models, with the latter set to give Peugeot a model priced more competitively against key rivals such as the Volkswagen Polo (which starts at $16,490 plus on-road costs). The current base model Active kicks off at $18,490 plus costs.
