Infiniti QX30 Concept teaser reveals rear of new baby SUV

A new teaser image of the Infiniti QX30 Concept has given away plenty about how the Japanese luxury brand's showcar will look when it makes its international debut at the 2015 Geneva motor show in March.

The high-riding hatchback presages a production model that will wear the QX30 nameplate and will be based on the Q30 small car, sharing its underpinnings and some major components with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. We've seen a rear shot of the QX30 Concept previously (below), but this new image offers more of an idea of what to expect.

According to Infiniti, the concept crossover model "pushes design boundaries", with "the sleek lines of a coupe" and the "distinguishing and higher stance of a crossover".

“We wanted the spontaneous fluidity of the QX30 Concept design to cut through the urban clutter and rigidity, reflecting its go-anywhere and spur-of-the-moment nature,” said Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti executive design director.

“The QX30 Concept has been designed to make occupants feel safe and protected inside, and customers can drive in or out of the city without worrying about nicks to the chromework.

“The QX30 Concept design conveys a sophisticatedly gritty sense of strength and durability, but tough doesn’t mean rough. We’ve retained a sense of artistry throughout, even in the most functional of parts,” said Albaisa

There are the typical off-road cladding elements that Infiniti calls "stylish protection", including skid plates and hard-wearing wheel-arch extensions, the latter of which surround the show models 21-inch wheels with all-terrain tyres.

Roof rails are also fitted to the car, and they extend inward toward the mid-section of the roof, providing a "sculpture" for occupants to see through as the showcar features a glass roof panel.

Infiniti has previously stated the new QX30 production model would go on sale in Australia either in 2015 or 2016. The production car is to be built alongside the Q30 hatch at Nissan's plant in the UK.
